On April 15, Lisa Dahl was named the new head coach of the Faribault Emeralds dance team. Dahl takes over for Lois Krinke, who stepped down after leading the Emeralds to 28 consecutive state appearances, 19 Big Nine Conference championships and 12 state championships during her 28 seasons.

Dahl, a Faribault High School graduate, was a three-year member of the Emeralds. She started the Emeralds JV dance team and served as coach for 13 years. Dahl also coached in Lakeville and Cannon Falls and ran her own dance studio in Faribault for seven years before returning to serve as a varsity assistant to Krinke the last two years.

“I have always loved coaching in Faribault and when the position opened up to be the varsity assistant coach two years ago I jumped at the chance to come back and coach the team that has been part of my life since high school,” Dahl said. “It means a lot to me to keep the traditions going, but also be able to put my own spin on things.”

Krinke said she is happy she’s able to hand the team off to someone who is familiar with the program.

“I feel good because she’s someone who has that passion for the Emeralds dance team. She’s an Emerald at heart,” Krinke said. “We always say, ‘Once an Emerald, always an Emerald.’”

Dahl said her goals are to continue to build on the past success of the program and for her team members to learn lessons about hard work, dedication and teamwork that will help them be successful both in dance and in life.

“While dance is a team sport, it relies heavily on each individual to put in significant time on their own working to become the best they can be for the team to be successful,” she said.
